Hello everyone!
New - Distance Marking Service
From September 2018, I’m going to be re-introducing a service which I used to offer several years ago! Many of you have asked for me to offer again the opportunity to have a single piece (or several pieces) of work marked by me, as you would value the feedback of an experienced tutor.
You will be able to book specific time slots throughout the year. After paying for the particular service you require, you will send me, either electronically or by post, the piece of work you would like to be assessed. I will mark it according to any examiner mark schemes or by using my professional judgement and send detailed written feedback to your email address. You can use this service as a one-off check to reassure yourself of the stage of progress your child has reached, or in a continuing way, to keep an eye on how their English is progressing.
This service will begin in September, but time slots will become available later this summer. If you email me, I will send you the prices for each type of work and my terms and conditions.
Updates on Classes
I’ve had the great pleasure of teaching several classes this past year, some of which have been quite a drive from where I live in Oxford. Although the students in these groups have been wonderful, I have decided to stay within Oxfordshire in the future. I will miss my weekly trips to Buckinghamshire and the students, some of whose families I have known for decades!
This year’s exam students have been brilliant and I am looking forward to hearing about their results later this summer!
Classes in Oxford from September 2018
These will include classes for:
· KS3 English
· KS3 Humanities
· IGCSE English Language
· IGCSE English Literature
Some of these groups are already full, but there may be space in others. Do let me know if you are interested in a place.
Online Information and Support
In addition to the paid services I provide, of tuition in local groups and distance marking, I also work as a volunteer in the home education community supporting parents as they provide the best possible education for their children. As part of this work, I run the English Language and Literature IGCSE for UK Home Educators Facebook group
This has almost 900 members and is a place for home educating parents to get support and information from each other. There are also some home educating parents who are tutors or teachers of English and some of those are or have been, like me, examiners in these subjects.
So, I am offering several ways for home educating parents to obtain the support and information they may need:
- as a tutor of local study groups,
- as a provider of assessment and feedback on English work, including mock exam papers, and
- as a support for parents who are unable to afford, or simply don’t need, a tutor or a distance learning company.
I hope that this newsletter has been useful. I love to hear updates from past students, so feel free to get in touch with me and let me know how you are doing!
Goodbye!
